Description:

The thrill of discovery is high in this prospecting expedition. We will be hiking through the badlands of the Western Slope searching for new fossil sites. This is an area full of fossil bone, where new discoveries are still being made. The site you find could lead science to a whole new discovery! Bring your wide-brimmed hat & sunscreen and venture into the unknown!

Difficulty: This is a hiking trip. Participants should expect to be traversing badlands without existing trails or shade cover.

What to Bring: Expeditioners should dress for hiking outdoors in summer: wide-brimmed hat, sturdy closed-toed shoes or hiking boots, sunscreen, one or two water bottles (32 oz recommended), and bug spray. 

Itinerary:

8:00 am – meet at Dinosaur Journey in Fruita, CO: participants will sign a health waiver at this time

8:30 am – Orientation at DJ.

8:45 am – Depart for badlands, prospect hiking

Noon-ish – picnic lunch in the field

1:00 pm – prospecting

2:30 – return to Dinosaur Journey 

3:00-4:00 – tour of Prep Lab
